How to Improve Your Classroom Participation Through Observation Topics
How to Improve Your Classroom Participation Through Observation TopicsOne of the most popular ways to enjoy great low cost personal training in the classroom is by having observations, or the coaching sessions where students can see and practice what they are being taught. Students can ask questions to the coach or ask what they are supposed to do next step-wise, or to gain new insights into the lesson. In order to have the best one-on-one time with the teacher, a student should be prepared for that.A teacher's schedule is very tightly controlled and so it is essential to make sure that the observation topic and the teacher have ample time to prepare for the session. There are many methods used to determine how long the teaching session will last-time, space or the number of people in the class. Making sure that the time can be devoted to the observation topic without too much disruption can really make the training process more enjoyable.Since there are so many types of observations , the teacher must decide which ones are most relevant to his or her style and what will be practiced during the session. Some observations are very rigid, while others are flexible and more open to students' individual experience. Some observers are trained in solo observation and other observations require the instructor to set a strict protocol. Here are some observation topics:Observations that are about technique should be easy for students to grasp and practice. For instance, students should be able to demonstrate what they have done, both in terms of proper form and the application of the principle. In addition, the teacher should also know what method he or she would use for this training-including the equipment, technique, and whatever else might be needed. This information should be presented during the first day of the classroom session. This is important to allow the students to see how the instructions would work in the real world and not just as instruction.Many studen ts who attend more than one type of training sessions over the course of a year find that they spend more time on observations than actual learning. Students like observing teachers and observing the people in the classes. The truth is that observation topics can be many different things. It could be a person's characteristics, personality, traits, or some type of learning styles. Observing a well known person in a way that is relevant to the training is one way to get a good view of the person and make learning even more fun. By seeing what other people do, students can get a general idea of what is expected from them in the class.People's views of learning and the concepts that form the foundation of that learning are very important. When students are asked to reflect on themselves and to see what they could improve upon, observation topics can really enrich the class. Just as with other topics, the skill that the teacher will teach is one that students need to be aware of, in ord er to learn effectively. As with all aspects of teaching, knowledge of observations is necessary.Having observations can be a very fun way to have an entertaining class. Some observers will focus on many different topics to allow the class to focus on certain types of problems and behaviors and not the more broad concepts, while others focus on a single topic to allow students to see the material and practice the skill before making an assessment.

`` Wuthering Heights `` By Emily Bronte - 2038 Words
Romantic philosophers proposed that every person or entity had its own individual universe that only the person or entity itself could observe. This Romantic self was desperate to connect to others and yearned for love, a mutual connection between two understanding parties that could allow the lonely self to access a universe outside of its own. If the longing to love and connect with this other person was a legitimate desire from the personââ¬â¢s true energy, then Romantic philosopher William Blake would say that it was pure and correct and must be followed. Tragically, many people fail to understand their energies and chase after what they think they want but what will bring no real joy to them. Robert frost 2 Essay Example For Students
Robert frost 2 Essay Robert FrostRobert Frost was born on March 26, 1874 in San Francisco. His father was William Frost, a Harvard graduate who was on his way westward when he stopped to teach at Bucknell Academy in Pennsylvania for extra money. His mother, Isabelle Moodie began teaching math at Bucknell while William was there, and they got married and moved to San Francisco. They were constantly changing houses, and William went from job to job as a journalist. About a year after moving to San Francisco, they had Robert. They named him Robert Lee Frost, after Williams childhood hero, Robert E. Lee. Frosts father died from tuberculosis at age thirty-four, in 1885. Isabelle took Robert and his sister back east to Massachusetts. Soon they moved to Salem, New Hampshire, where there was a teaching opening. Robert began to go to school and sit in on his mothers classes. He soon learned to love language, and eventually went to Lawrence High School, where he wrote the words to the school hymn, and graduated as co-valedictorian. Frost read rabidly of Dickens, Tennyson, Longfellow, and many others. Frost was then sent to Dartmouth college by his controlling grandfather, who saw it as the proper place for him to train to become a businessman. Frost read even more in college, and learned that he loved poetry. His poetry had little success getting published, and he had to work various jobs to make a living, such as a shoemaker, a country schoolteacher, and a farmer. In 1912 Frost gave up his teaching job, sold his farm, and moved to England. He received aid from poets suck as Edward Thomas and Rupert Brooke, and published his first two volumes of poetry, A Boys Will in 1913, and North of Boston in 1914. These works were well received not only in England, but in America. Frost returned to America in 1915 and continued writing his poetry. He produced many volumes of poetry, among which are Mountain Interval (1916), West-Running Brook (1928), A Further Range (1936), A Masque of Reason (1945), and In the Clearing (1962). Frost received the Pulitzer Prize for poetry four times (1924, 1931, 1937, 1943) and became the first poet to read a poem at the presidential inauguration of John F. Kennedy. His poetry was based mainly on life and scenery in rural New England, and reflected many values of American society. He died on January 29, 1963 in Boston, Massachusetts. His epitaph reads: I had a lovers quarrel with the world.Frost once said, I guess I must be just an ordinary man (Cox 5) and though he is, without a doubt, and extraordinary man, there is some truth in the statement. Throughout his poetry, Frost seems to make many attempts to appeal to the common working American and his feelings. He does this through the subject matter and themes as well as through the diction he uses. An ordinary man is one whose imagination and character result from the constant impact of the irresistible force of desire against the immovable object necessity, the impact of feeling against reason, and the impact of faith against fact (Cox 17). It is for this reason that Frosts work speaks to and for all men. Many of the poems Frost wrote deal with situations set in a simple, rural setting. The characters he creates are very realistic, and are not romanticized. This is one reason why people can relate to the poems. His characters seem more real than their neighbors with manifest reservations (Cox 8). One could say that the people are more three-dimensional than just imaginative words on a paper. He uses farmers and workers in his poetry, and sometimes he pokes fun at the more sophisticated people and how they feel. Frosts world is one that is related to a real world with its definite boundaries in time and space (Gerber 90). Frost seems to have a good understanding of the world in which his characters, ordinary people, live. .ueb3a5ee4667db279dc8ff5f0f1234204 , .ueb3a5ee4667db279dc8ff5f0f1234204 .postImageUrl , .ueb3a5ee4667db279dc8ff5f0f1234204 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ueb3a5ee4667db279dc8ff5f0f1234204 , .ueb3a5ee4667db279dc8ff5f0f1234204:hover , .ueb3a5ee4667db279dc8ff5f0f1234204:visited , .ueb3a5ee4667db279dc8ff5f0f1234204:active { border:0!important; } .ueb3a5ee4667db279dc8ff5f0f1234204 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ueb3a5ee4667db279dc8ff5f0f1234204 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ueb3a5ee4667db279dc8ff5f0f1234204:active , .ueb3a5ee4667db279dc8ff5f0f1234204:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ueb3a5ee4667db279dc8ff5f0f1234204 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ueb3a5ee4667db279dc8ff5f0f1234204 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ueb3a5ee4667db279dc8ff5f0f1234204 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ueb3a5ee4667db279dc8ff5f0f1234204 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ueb3a5ee4667db279dc8ff5f0f1234204:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ueb3a5ee4667db279dc8ff5f0f1234204 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ueb3a5ee4667db279dc8ff5f0f1234204 .ueb3a5ee4667db279dc8ff5f0f1234204-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ueb3a5ee4667db279dc8ff5f0f1234204:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Dangerous Mind Essay He understands the necessities of the ordinary man, one who has to work hard to support himself and a family, no matter what events may take place. An example is the poem Out, Out-, in which a young boy has his hand accidentally cut off by a chainsaw, and when he dies, the family, since they were not the one dead, turned to their affairs. This theme reoccurs again in other poem, where a tragic event occurs, but life goes on, and the characters in the poem must ignore some of the pain in order to continue to work and live. Another theme he uses often is the pride of the working man. He understands that a working mans value is measured by the amount and the quality of the work that he does, and an example of a poem where this is used is The Death of the Hired Man. In this poem, Silas, an old man, returns to a farm where he has worked sporadically in the past, and wishes to work again. The owner of the farm and his wife both know this, but they respect the pride of the old man, and do not want to damage that pride by refusing to let him work to earn his keep. Frost understands the pain and tragedy that occurs in life, and is not a stranger to the experiences that make men grieve and despair. He has kept his sanity not by blinding himself to the elements which make men mad, but rather the most important result of his acquaintance with sorrow has been the realization that the exercise of the creative faculties is independent of the circumstance (Gerber 89). Frost acknowledges this in the poem Aquainted with the Night, when he talks about walking through a city at night, and seeing all that goes on that those who only walk at night cannot see. Frost also uses fairly simple words in his poetry, which makes it easy for the reader to understand, while making it sound no less elegant. The diction relates directly to the subject of his poems, because the farm workers and ordinary men do not think or speak with complex words, but, like Frost, they use simple words to make a complex statement. One could say that Frosts words are like simple, single-colored strands of thread, which he weaves together to make an elegant, beautiful tapestry.

Alexander the Great
Alexander the Great Essay Alexander was born in July 356 B.C. to Philip II and his third wife, Olympias. The parents were far from a happy couple, and Alexander was raised primarily under the influence of his mother. At the age of thirteen, he was sent to study with Aristotlean education that was for the most part formal. Aristotle promoted the belief that non-Greeks were naturally slaves, thus encouraging the princes thirst for conquest. Ultimately, however, Alexander would reject this belief, at least implicitly, as he attempted to cooperate with the Persians even as he subjugated them. Returning to Macedonia after three years, Alexander soon had the opportunity to prove his strength in battle, as he subdued rebellions and contributed to his fathers famous victory over Athens and Thebes at Chaeronea. But when Philip divorced Olympias and married Cleopatra, Alexander began to fear that his father was looking for a new heir, and the father and son had a falling out. Their dispute was shortly resolved, but both remained suspicious of the other. Indeed, Philip was soon assassinated by a guard who presumably had a personal grievance, though Alexander and his mother are traditionally thought to have played some kind of role in Philips death. Alexander thus succeeded to the throne and began the inevitable dynastic purging of enemies. At the same time, he had to force the other Greek city-states to acknowledge his authority as Hegemon of the Hellenic League, which Philip had established. In doing so, Alexander razed the city of Thebes as an examplethough many sympathized w ith Thebes and only grew to resent Alexander more deeply. But Alexander had more important concernsnamely, the Persian expedition. This had been Philips dream and Alexanders inheritance, and he wasted no time in beginning. Alexander advanced gradually and conquered territory by territory until Darius, the Great King of Persia, was forced to come out himself to face Alexander. Alexander was victorious in the two key battles at Issus and Gaugamela, and Darius was murdered by conspirators soon afterward. In the meantime, Alexander also conquered Phoenicia, Egypt, and Babylon, all of which proved to be valuable acquisitions. Upon hearing of Dariuss death, the Macedonian army assumed that the expedition was over and the war won, but Alexander insisted on pushing farther east. Here he faced a formidable opponent in Spitamenes, who possessed a smaller army but continued harassing Alexander and even slaughtered a Macedonian unit after Alexander underestimated him. Spitamenes was ultimately defeated, the rebellion fell apart, and Alexander went on to conquer the Paraetacene territory. In the Far East, Alexander founded a large number of cities that would contribute to the expansion of Greek culture. Finally there remained India (which at the time referred to a small area in western Pakistan, not the country of modern times). Although Alexander was already the undisputed king of Asia, he would not be satisfied until he had personally vanquished the entire continent. He soon allied himself with one ruler, Ambhi, but there remained Ambhis enemy Porus. The result was one of Alexanders greatest military achievements, but the battle was difficult, particularly because the Macedonian army had had to face a frightful experience in fighting elephants. After India, Alexander wanted to press still farther, recognizing that Asia extended beyond what he may have expected from limited geographical knowledge. At this point, however, his troops finally refused to further, and mutinous thoughts stirred after eight hard years of combat and marching. Alexander was furious, but he was eventually forced to give in and return home. Back in Persia Alexander dealt with administrative matters, including the replacement of various satraps, or local rulers. More important, his experience of Asia had changed his attitude toward Persians. His desire to cooperate with the Persians alienated many conservative Macedonians, who still viewed Persians as barbarians. Alexanders new attitude may even have led to his death in 323 B.C. Nokia HR - Essay Example Change in fact, is one of the mostly viewed elements for corporate success (Manfred and Vries 7). Apple for instance initiated social and economic change, which has become prior to its actual leadership in its industry and its actual redefinition of the digital age by its visionary leader, Steven P. Jobs (Markoff). With this move, the company is consistently alert to find out what their competitors are doing in order to protect its competitive advantage (McQuillen). Change remains constant in this world. Believe it or not, we need to change, either for the best or the other way around. The person in front of you today is convinced and is compelled to choose the former. We need to change for good! Look around you, and you will be able to see major changes in our industry. Where do you find us now? Are we heading towards the advancements or are we much left behind by our competitors? Where do we hold our competitive advantage? Ladies and gentlemen, a pleasant day to all! Nokia is one of the dream companies your new CEO hoped to work for before. And it is now a dream come true, but there are still many things left unfulfilled in that dream, for there is a need to involve you in it. Yes, you heard it. Your new CEO would not be able to completely achieve that dream without you. So starting today, let us dream together, and be part of what we must envision as the dream company in the future. Technological advancement is imminent. We cannot completely hold our competitors to stop them from investing in technological advancements and changes. Business Negotiations Coursework Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
Business Negotiations - Coursework Example However, the employees do not want to lose their jobs or have their salariesââ¬â¢ deducted because of the responsibilities they have. Negotiation is a good way to handle the conflict. It provides both parties with a forum to bring forward their grievances and the affected parties will work something out that could solve their differences. I have two options: to urge the union leaders act ethically and agree to have a mature and productive negotiation process where both parties can benefit or to claim bankruptcy which will justify my firing some employees and reducing their wages. If the union leaders agree to have an ethical negotiation process, I will suggest the laying off some of the employees during this bad economic period, then rehire them once the condition is good; or convert some of the permanent employees to contracts such that they can be recalled during high peak seasons. Consequently, all employees can agree to stay in the company but have their wages reduced. The employees will have to understand that these decisions are not selfish but are circumstantial. If the negotiation process results in laying off some employees, they will be given a three monthsââ¬â¢ notice during which they can look for other jobs or sources of income. The employees will be laid off, according to their productivity levels. T hose with poor performance and poor productivity levels will be the first ones to get a compulsory leave (Reitz, Wall, & Love,

Breast Cancer :: Health
Breast Cancer In the United States in 2005 alone, 43,063 died from breast cancer. It is the number two cancer killer and the number one cancer in females ages 15 to 54. On average if a woman gets this disease, their life expectancy drops nineteen and a half years. This cancer is within the top three cancers of all woman above the age of 15, and comprises 6% of all health care costs in the U.S. totaling an astounding 35 billion dollars a year. An average woman is said to have a one in thirty chance of getting the cancer, but if that person had family history of the disease, their chances have been measured up to a one in six chance. Sixtyà ©nine percent of Africanà ©American women survive from it, and there are predicted to be nearly two million new cases reported this year in the U.S. The disease is breast cancer. Breast cancer is a group of rapidly reproducing, undifferentiated cells in the area of the breast in women. The earliest changes occur in the epithelial cells of the terminal end buds (TEB) of the breast milk ductal system. While the outlining steps of breast cancer are unknown, the cells in the breast trigger a reaction of cell reproduction. These new cancer cells form tumors. If cancer cells are active or are considered malign, the tumor grows at tremendous speeds, and may end up in metastasis. Metastasis is a complex process in which cells break away from their primary tumors, and via the blood supply or through the lymph system relocate into other organs, thus spreading cancer throughout the body if left untreated. Generally, if a lump is smaller than one centimeter, it is considered benign, although every woman should consult her doctor about any unusual bumps or feeling in the chest. One sign of breast cancer results from ductal cancer in the breast. A once hollow open tube could be completely clogged up with cancerous cells thus leaving an awkward feeling in the chest area. Other complications that result from this cancer and others is on top of the clogging and cramming of the system, the body's need to not only supply for itself, but for the large tumors. Recently genes have been touted as a great cause of cancer. It now is thought among the medical community that while there are definite environmental contributors to cancer, even those people who are exposed to few carcinogens may suffer from disease that runs in their families. Among the genes that is being heavily researched is the gene BRCA1. In one of Breast Cancer :: Health Breast Cancer In the United States in 2005 alone, 43,063 died from breast cancer. Rural vs. Country Living
Sean Stafford 11/11/12 Living Urban Vs. Rural The on-going debate of living in the city vs. country is very controversial in many peopleââ¬â¢s eyes but, the city has much more to offer economically, socially and in many other ways more convenient. Being able to meet your needs conveniently and to travel in a car less is what makes the city a lot easier to live in. Therefore, Living in the city is much more beneficial than living in the rural areas.Being able to walk around different places that offer different things to meet your needs specifically is something we could dream of, well in the setting of a city you are able to virtually walk anywhere and either takes a metro or taxi and you will arrive at your destination quicker than ever. Living in the city brings a sort of social structure in a way because when you live in the Country your nearest neighbor may be a mile away. There may be times when you wonââ¬â¢t see another human being for days unless you go somewhere off of your property.And f you so much as run out of milk it means a trip in the car. Mechanics and most services are not close It is not easy if your car breaks down and your nearest mechanic is 30 miles away. Secondly, there are many kind of public transport such as train, tram, bus, taxi in the city and there are many streets. On the other hands, in the country they do not have many streets so therefore making the city transport system more complex but in a better way.Again the convenience in the city is better than the convenience in the country. It is easy to make more friends because people living in a city are more friendly and happier with their friends. On the other hand, in the country people are less open minded to make friends with someone they have never met. Another factor that has to do with the well being of a person is getting sick, and health in the city is better than in the country, In city there are many hospitals. Lastly,

Nutrients as Major Water Pollutants
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, over half of the nationââ¬â¢s streams and rivers are polluted, and of those, 19% are impaired by the presence of excess nutrients. What Is Nutrient Pollution? The term nutrient refers to sources of nourishment supporting organism growth. In the context of water pollution, nutrients generally consist of phosphorus and nitrogen which algae and aquatic plants use to grow and proliferate. Nitrogen is present in abundance in the atmosphere, but not in a form that is available to most living things. When nitrogen is in the form of ammonia, nitrite, or nitrate, however, it can be used by many bacteria, algae, and plants (heres a nitrogen cycle refresher). Generally, it is the overabundance of nitrates that causes environmental problems. What Causes Nutrient Pollution? Some common agricultural practices lead to excess nutrients in water bodies. Phosphorus and nitrates are important components of the fertilizers used in agricultural fields ââ¬â they are present in both synthetic fertilizers and natural ones like manures. If the crops do not pick up all of the fertilizer applied, or if rain has a chance to wash it away before they are absorbed by plants, the excess fertilizer is flushed into streams. Another major source of nutrients also comes from the way agricultural fields are only used seasonally. Most crops are present in the fields over a relatively short growing season, and the rest of the year the soil is left exposed to the elements. Meanwhile soil bacteria is feasting on decaying roots and plant debris, releasing nitrates. Not only do bare fields cause sediment pollution, but this practice allows the massive release and washing away of nitrates.Sewage can carries nutrients to streams and water. Septic systems, especially if older or im properly maintained, can leak into streams or lakes. Households connected to municipal sewer systems also contribute to nutrient pollution. Wastewater treatment plants sometimes function improperly, and are periodically overwhelmed during heavy rain events and release sewage into rivers.Stormwater. Rain falling in urban or suburban areas picks up nutrients from lawn fertilizer, pet waste, and various detergents (for example, the soap used to wash oneââ¬â¢s car in the driveway). The stormwater is then canalized into municipal drainage systems and released into streams and rivers, loaded with phosphorus and nitrogen.Burning fossil fuels release nitrogen oxides and ammonia into the air, and when those are deposited in water, they can contribute significantly to the excess nutrient problem. Most problematic are coal-fired power plants and gas- or diesel-powered vehicles. What Environmental Effects Do Excess Nutrients Have? Excess nitrates and phosphorus encourage the growth of aquatic plants and algae. Nutrient-boosted algae growth leads to massive algae blooms, visible as a bright green, foul smelling sheen on the waterââ¬â¢s surface. Some of the algae making up the blooms produce toxins that are dangerous to fish, wildlife, and humans. The blooms eventually die off, and their decomposition consumes a lot of dissolved oxygen, leaving waters with low oxygen concentrations. Invertebrates and fish are killed when oxygen levels dip too low. Some areas, called dead zones, are so low in oxygen that they become empty of most life. A notorious dead zone forms in the Gulf of Mexico every year due to agricultural runoff in the Mississippi River watershed. Human health can be affected directly, as nitrates in drinking water are toxic, especially to infants. People and pets can also become quite ill from exposure to toxic algae. Water treatment does not necessarily solve the problem, and can in fact create dangerous conditions when chlorine interacts with the algae and produces carcinogenic compounds. à Some Helpful Practices Cover crops and no-till farming protect agricultural fields and mobilize nutrients. The cover plants die out in winter, and the following growing season they give back those nutrients to the new crop.Maintaining well vegetated buffers around farm fields and next to streams allows plants to filter out nutrients before they enter the water.Keep septic systems in good working order, and conduct regular inspections.Consider your nutrient inputs from soaps and detergents, and reduce their use whenever possible.In your yard, slow the water runoff and allow it to be filtered by plants and soil. To accomplish this, establish rain gardens, keep drainage ditches well vegetated, and use rain barrels to harvest roof runoff.Consider using pervious pavement in your driveway. These surfaces are designed to let water percolate into the soil below, preventing runoff. For More Information Environmental Protection Agency. Nutrient Pollution.

Some slaves became skilled workers such as blacksmiths and carpenters. Some slaves worked in cities but their earnings belonged to their owners. Planters often hired these skilled workers to work on their plantations. Older slaves like women worked as servants in the planterââ¬â¢s house. They cooked, cleaned and did other chores under the supervision of the planterâ⬠â¢s wife. The slaveââ¬â¢s life depended on their owners. Most owners treated their slaves well by making sure they had decent food, clean houses, and warm clothes to wear. Other planters spent little time caring about these things. They were determining to get the most work possible from their slaves. Slaves worked from sunup to sundown, at least sixteen hours a day. Reflection On Special Education Process - 952 Words
ILAP Reflection-Special Education Process Throughout my career I have always been amazed by how little regular education teachers know about the special education process. On numerous occasions I have had teachers ask me, ââ¬Å"Why donââ¬â¢t you just test him, to see if he qualifies?â⬠And when I tried to explain that there was more to the process then just testing, most of the time the teachers would walk away in disgust, without knowing the steps we had to follow in the process. Development In discussions with Ben Robertson and Matthew Rose on what our topic for the Instructional Leadership Action Plan (ILAP), we all believed that providing teachers with more information on the Special Education Process would well serve the needs of all teachers. Ben and I both talked to our principals about having the ILAP at our respective schools and both principals agreed that the need for it was great in both buildings. However, when discussing travel for Matthew it was decided that we would have the ILAP at Nickelsville Elementary and would later hold the same ILAP, based on our feedback from teachers at Nickelsville Elementary and our cohort, at Gate City Middle School. Use of Internet for Operations Samples for Students â⬠MyAssignmenthelp
Question: Discuss about the Use of Internet for Operations. Answer: Introduction IoT can be said to be an interconnectivity of things such as people, animals, devices (digital ones) or objects that are uniquely identified and are able to transmit information/data over a computer network without having interactions such as person-to-person or even person-to-device (Barrett, 2016). High development rate of rising technology in the world has enabled IoT to gradually evolve in different aspects of life in the world today. The utilization of IoT has been extended to different sectors including agriculture, banking, industrialization, education among others. The use of these applications brings about great benefits to the various sectors in life. These benefits majorly include; improved service delivery, reduced service delivery cost, reduced errors involved, increased production and services rates, among others (Patel, 2017). There are many existing IoT applications in use today and others which are yet to be implemented. All these applications and devices largely relies on the use of internet for operations. To know more about IoT we will use an example of smart City to explain the concept. Smart City as an IoT. A smart city can be said to be an urban area where the use of technology is rapidly used in by various sectors in achieving a certain goal using real-time data or information sharing by analyzing a given sectors information and the technology used for operation (Bauer, 2015). It cosist of three key elements which include: information technologies, smart citizens and interconnection of elements (IURYT?, 2015). A smart city uses IoT in various areas such as health care, public services, smart commercial buildings, smart homes, transport, utilities, among others. For instance, on transport sector, a smart city will implement an IoT that provide both on-street and off-street guidance during parking, traffic control sensors and metering for traffic flow (Rivera, 2015). All these will send the real-time information to specific departments via the internet for analysis without any interference or interaction of humans or third party. How Smart City Operates Smart cities are installed with gateways which are carriers for sensors. These sensors are configured to detect specific conditions based on what or which department they belong to. Once the information has been collected by these sensors, the data is transmitted to the specific people or departments in real time via internet depending on its operational need. For example, in the case of meteorology, the sensors will detect the weather conditions of the city, any changes that may occur and then the meteorological department will be able to access the information automatically via a network and proceed with the analysis (Palet, 2014). Examples of smart cities include Dublin, Seoul, Helsinki, among others. Factors supporting existence of smart city as an IoT For the smart city to exist and thrive, there has to be various factors that facilitate their existence. These includes some of the benefits that a smart city comes with, the appropriate infrastructure through which the city will be built on and the need for these particular city in the first place. Below are some of the factors that supports the emergence of smart city as part of the IoT in the world today. Improved ICT facilities. Smart City depends entirely on the ICT infrastructure. The city uses all the ICT frameworks in order for it to be operational. These includes the internet and ICT devices that have gradually developed from time to time. The sharing of information, communication and conducting major operational roles in a smart city relies fully on the ICT. And due to improved ICT it became easier to come up with smart cities in the world (Aidana IURYT?, 2016). Enhanced Broadband Networks. Existence of such infrastructure makes it easy for information sharing thus supporting smart city operations. Existence of e-services that facilitates operations of smart city functions also provide a platform for existence of such city. Also smart cities have enabled creations of smart urban spaces which enables high quality and more efficient service delivery for a sustainable environment. Also the fact that most governments are making most of their data public to be used by its citizens for business and conducting governments duties, this has promoted the use of smart devices and applications thus creating technology-reliance cities. Challenges of Smart City as an IoT Despite all the benefits that smart city comes with, there exist various factors that may hinder or challenge its existence. These factors may include: Brings security issues when it comes to information sharing. This might be as a result of lack of legal standards to govern the whole aspect of information sharing which is widely used in smart city thus leading to information security threats such as lack of confidentiality and privacy. Unemployment. In smart city, every operation is automated. This therefore means less human labor required thus leading to increased rate of unemployment. Privacy. A smart city is prone to cyber-attacks since all the services are carried out over an internet and therefore if not well guarded the outside world might interfere or even access the most confidential information. Conclusions To conclude, it is therefore safe to say that the existence of smart city implements the whole concept of IoT in todays world. This particular example brings about benefits of the use of IoT applications and devices in improving the quality of lives in this century. Thus IoT which is part of the ICT infrastructure has brought global impact in the way many things are being operated in the world today (S., 2013). References Barrett, D. J. (2016). A Civil Action Essays - Legal Entities, W. R. Grace And Company A Civil Action A Civil Action The movie A Civil Action brings up an interesting idea that many people in the public don't see or hear about very often. The idea that the big corporations often don't take into account the safety of the people that work for them or the people that live around the factories. These big corporations are run entirely by money and the idea of what things will cost and how much money they can possibly make. Too many times money is more important than the lives of human beings and the people that run these places only see in dollars and cents. The moral issues that this dilemma brings up are immense. This has been happening for centuries since the industrial revolution. Workers were subjected too harsh conditions and unsafe factories so that more goods could be produced. They had children as young as seven and eight years old working 15 hour days. In our modern times, toxic waste now plays a big part in the safety of people. The waste that these companies produce and dump under our noses don't seem to bother them in the least. The way microeconomics effects this must be fully explored to realize the way the corporate world thinks and acts. The goal of any corporation is to make the maximum profit that they can providing a good or service to the community while doing it as inexpensively as possible to them. Too many times producing these goods, toxic by-products are also produced. Nuclear power plants create plutonium, factories let poisonous gasses into the atmosphere, and chemicals are dumped into the drains and washed into our water everyday while being unknown to the people around them. The issue then becomes what to do with these poisons at the cheapest cost to retain the most revenue. In A Civil Action the W.R. Grace company decided that the best place to dump the T.C.E. was in the river behind the plant. It's too bad that all the people who lived down stream were also effected by the carelessness of this company. It got into the drinking water and gave kids cancer and seizures among other health conditions. These companies try to cover up these kinds of things as much as possible by buying people off. They think that if they give people money for their losses than everything will be alright. For huge corporations dealing with billions of dollars these payoffs are only a drop in the bucket for them. Even a million dollars to any family is an incredible amount of money and often the money becomes more important than the real issues behind the problem and can't be passed up by a family struggling to get by. The benefits of paying of these people for their trouble is much cheaper then doing things the right way in the beginning and protecting their safety. Money in our society has become a sense of power and authority. People think to many times that money is the key to happiness. Although money isn't a bad thing it effects the way people act and causes them to not care about the things that they should many times. Corporations have a structure that they follow in order to make them run in an efficient manner. In the movie John Travolta initially doesn't want to take the case because he doesn't think that there will be any money in it for him and his firm. Even though he goes and sees how much pain this company has caused to the people in Wolburn, he still doesn't care because of the money. Not until he realizes how big the companies are does he take the case. As the case goes on he isn't able to achieve what he ultimately wanted to do because the Grace Company has so much money that it will almost always win. Travolta's firm goes eight million into debt trying to win this case but ultimately has to settle because they can't go on. The firm doesn't even have to clean up the polluted land that caused all the problems. It wasn't until the E.P.A. steps in and with their power was able to achieve a
